Man left with facial injuries during Sunday car theft crime spree

A 39-year-old Chifley man was allegedly assaulted in his garage when he disturbed two men he believed were attempting to steal his vehicle on Sunday morning.

The man sustained significant injuries to his face and hand and was transported to hospital about 6.30am.

About half an hour later, a man allegedly stole a VW Golf from a 69-year-old Palmerston man after threatening him in his driveway. The Palmerston man was not injured in the incident.

Police are yet to recover the man's Golf, which has an ACT license plate with the registration YLR73F.

They have recovered a burnt-out Audi sedan believed to be involved in both the Chifley and Palmerston incidents.

The dark-coloured Audi was reportedly stolen from a Mitchell business early on Sunday morning.

Police are urging anyone who saw the Audi or the VW Golf in the areas of Chifley, Palmerston or Crace on Sunday morning, or has any information to contact them immediately.

Members of the public who may have dash-cam footage or any information that could assist police are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website and quote reference 6858145. Information can be provided anonymously.
