Man left with chest wound after fighting off thug who broke into his Prestwich home in the early hours

A man was left with a chest wound after a thug burst into his Prestwich home in the early hours and demanded cash.

The raider broke into the house on Albert Avenue at around 2.20am on Monday.

He demanded money from those inside.

The victim, understood to be a man in his 30s, tried to fight off the would-be robber and a 'struggle' ensued.

The victim was left with a small chest wound, police said.

It is not known what kind of weapon was used. No arrests have been made.

One neighbour posted on Facebook: "I heard all the emergency services and thought it must be bad.

"Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Horrible world we now live in."

The man was white, between 35 and 50 and of medium build, GMP said. He had short, dark hair, a pale round face and was wearing a dark cardigan.
