Man left 'unrecognisable' and on life support after 'assault' in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh

A man in his 20s has been left “unrecognisable” and on life support after a reported assault.

It is understood the man, 27, suffered the injuries after an incident in the Diamond area of Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh at around 3.30am on Sunday.

He was discovered by police and a family friend told Belfast Live that he is in an “extremely bad condition” in South West Acute Hospital.

She said: “He was out on his own and is known as someone who is not confrontational or aggressive.

“We are deeply, deeply saddened that he has been targeted like this.

“It doesn’t matter whether it was one person responsible or whether it was a group of people.

“The family need answers. He has been left unrecognisable in his hospital bed, in a critical condition and he is on life support.

“He was found by police in the Diamond area at around 3.30am on Sunday morning.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, or if any local businesses have any CCTV footage to pass that on to the police.

SDLP Councillor Paul Blake urged anyone with information to contact police.

He said: “Enniskillen has a purple flag in recognition of its status as a safe night out, and an assault like this is extremely worrying.

“My thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family.

“I would ask anybody with information to pass it on to the PSNI.”
