Man left paralysed and unable to speak after late night trip to chippy for his dinner

A man was left paralysed after making a late night trip to the chippy for his dinner.

Ryan Womack can no longer eat, speak or walk and can barely recognise his mum after almost dying in a severe accident.

The 24-year-old suffered serious brain damage in a car accident on October 6, 2018 and is now living in a nursing home in Ormskirk .

It is believed that Ryan left a friend's house in Manchester at around 11pm to go to the chippy.

He is then said to have lost control of his car on a bend, hit three parked cars and smashed into a nearby garden.

Shocking images of the crash show Ryan's car completely destroyed while the tree surgeon was rushed to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Now, according to LancsLive , his mum Helen is trying to raise £10,000 to help care for her son at home.

Speaking about the accident, she said: "We were told that he was touch and go.

"The police told us we had to go to the hospital because he might not make it.

"We arrived in Manchester and I remember the doctor telling us that: 'If we do this surgery he will never be Ryan again.'

"I just told him to do what he had to do, I would do anything for him to live."

The doctors were forced to perform a craniotomy on Ryan, removing a section of his skull to relieve the swelling on his brain.

It undoubtedly saved his life but left him with severe brain damage. Ryan is paralysed, unable to talk or even eat.

Since his accident, Ryan has been in and out of assisted-living homes and rehab centres.

There were plans to have a plate put into his head after the craniotomy but the plate got infected and had to be removed.

Ryan has suffered from several more infections and illness throughout the last few months due to various operations and still lives without part of his skull.

Helen added: "He's not made the progress that he should have.

"But he's been so poorly that he's not really had the chance to do that."

Ryan now lives at Stocks Hall nursing home in Mawdeseley, Ormskirk. Although the staff are reportedly fantastic with him and Helen is grateful that her son is receiving care, she is keen to have him home.

She said: "I know Stocks Hall is beautiful and the staff are amazing but even they can't be with him all the time and I can.

"I've done the home care thing before, it doesn't bother me at all and I want to do it for my son."

Helen and her family will need to raise £10,000 to complete an extension on their house to give Ryan a downstairs bedroom, toilet and care facilities.

Already Ryan's friends have got behind his campaign, after they completed a 28-mile walk to Anfield in Liverpool.

Helen has also organised several upcoming events including a Fifa Tournament as well as Bamber Bridge family fun day and It's A Knockout Roadshow at Grove Park (both happening this weekend August 3-4).

Helen has asked that if anyone can donate, please visit GoFundMe page to help get Ryan home.
