Man left in shock as he captures the moment a seagull steals his ice cream

We have all wanted to get that Insta-worthy snap of us enjoying the summer holiday at the seaside.

But sometimes a pesky seagull is just too hungry to care.

Phil Grant had just purchased a Mr Whippy ice cream - with a flake, of course - and wanted to take a picture before he indulged in the treat.

But the 44-year-old didn't even get a chance to have one tiny lick before the bird swooped in and literally stole it - minus the cone which was still firmly fixed in Phil's hand.

Phil, from Manchester, said his wife Eve, 39, found the whole thing pretty hilarious.

He said: "It was a sunny day, so my wife and I decided to visit Whitby. I'd grown nearby and after moving to Manchester, I've missed the coastal delights of the East Coast.

"I bought my childhood favourite and thought a snap of me holding my ice cream looking across from the pier towards Whitby Abbey would be a great photo for the family album.

"I felt something very large brush over the top of my head and the next thing I knew, a seagull was standing on the rocks below us, looking back up at me as he ate my ice cream!"

Whilst Eve found the whole thing hilarious, Phil was left surprised by the turn of events.

But luckily for him, the ice cream seller was in a generous mood and gave Phil another at a discounted price.

Phil added: "I would have never expected to be attacked as I revisited my childhood roots.

"Eve found the whole thing hilarious, stood watching me mourn my empty cone as she enjoyed her still very much intact ice cream!

"She did let me have a bit of her honeycomb cornet, which seemed to soften the blow of being robbed on the pier.

"I'm just glad I got to have another one at a discount, and I'll have my wits about me in the future for any winged thieves eyeing up my food!"
