A man described as a 'gentle giant' by friends has been left fighting for his life just days after getting married to his sweetheart.
Sam Jones, a well-liked Bristol security guard, ended up in a coma eight days after his wedding to partner Cheryl after falling ill at home.
He fell ill one week after friends and family gathered in Tewkesbury Abbey for their "beautiful" ceremony on August 31.
Sam, who is in his 40s, had a massive heart attack while at their city centre home with his new wife on September 8.
Cheryl flew into action and started CPR. It is believed Sam died at one point, but Cheryl revived him.
The ambulance then arrived and paramedics took over, transporting him to the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) where he is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Sam is in an induced coma and friends of his, including his boss Steve Wood of Able Investigations and Enforcement, have set up a fundraiser to help the family.
Mr Wood said: "Sam is really one of life's nice guys, he's a gentleman's gentleman. A gentle giant really.
"We are all heartbroken to see him like this and we just want to do him the service of making sure his wife is taken care of and he has some money for when he wakes up and starts recovering.
"Sam only gets paid if he works so it really is an emergency fund for them to be able to pay their rent and buy essentials.
"So, thank you to anyone who can spare a few pennies or pounds to help Sam and Cheryl," he added.
"I think we'd all like to thank those in the NHS who are giving him the best care any of us could ask for."
Donate to help Sam and his family while he is in hospital.
