Man left fuming after forking out £10 for two 99s from 'greedy' ice cream seller

For Flake's sake! The sun is out but one man was left fuming after forking out £10 for two "99" ice creams.

The beloved British summer classic hit the headlines earlier this year after Cadbury's announced a shortage of the chocolate bar.

But it seems the shortage may have hiked the prices after one customer was left reeling at the extortionate price.

The man was left outraged after coming across the expensive ice creams while visiting the Roaches, North Staffordshire, during half-term Stoke on Trent Live reports.

He wrote on social media: "The first and last time I pay £10 for two 99s. I know there's a Flake shortage but come the f*** on!"

Following his outburst, the man later updated his post to say the owner had been in touch.

He added: "I received an apology and assurances that pricing will now be clear on the vans. Hopefully, no one will be 'price ambushed' moving forward."

People were left divided, as some argued the man should have refused to pay.

One man said: "You either pay or walk away. Your choice. Don't pay and then complain. Tell the vendor you're walking away... that's the only way to make them rethink their pricing."

A second added: "More fool you for paying it. Ask the price, if too much walk away, watch the faces when you do it. I've done it when something was too dear. Try it next time."

Another said: "Sorry but I think I would have had to walk off and say I had changed my mind. Way too greedy."

Some went as far as to dub it 'daylight robbery' and 'insane'.

Others on Facebook estimated that £2.50 was the maximum a 99 should cost.

One man suggested heading to Aldi instead.

Would you pay £5 for a 99 ice cream? Let us know in the comments.

He said: "We got four chocolate-covered ice cream from Aldi for 99p and they are absolutely beautiful. They are Magnum lookalikes."

Another joked: "Must be golden ones for that price."
