A man was left fighting for his life after he was stabbed multiple times in a “vicious” and racially-motivated attack..
The man, in his 30s, was stabbed several times following an argument in east London on 19 June, Scotland Yard said.
He is still in hospital but his condition is not now life-threatening, the force said.
Officers said the man had been in Poplar, when he met a group of people and an argument began.
“However, the situation calmed and the victim and six males from the group went to an underpass," they said. “They sat chatting and drinking for a while before the victim was attacked and stabbed several times.”
The victim was able to flag down a taxi driver who called the emergency services, the Met said.
Officers are treating it as a racially-motivated attack and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“This was a vicious attack which left a man fighting for his life," said PC Simon Meade, of Tower Hamlets CID. “Our initial enquiries have made good progress and we continue to work to identify those who were involved in the attack."

No arrests have been made, the force said, days after it warned that “feral” knife attacks, where victims are wounded multiple times with weapons including machetes, are driving up London’s murder rate.
Group attacks are also more common now than five years ago, assistant commissioner Martin Hewitt said earlier this week.
More than 80 people have been murdered in the capital so far this year.
