Man left 'face down in road' following 'really nasty' assault in Prestwich

A man was left injured following a “really nasty” assault in Prestwich town centre this weekend.

The incident is believed to have happened in Bury New Road at around 10pm on Saturday, March 14.

A witness described seeing the victim face down in the road near Cape to Cuba following the attack.

Police said officers attended the scene but when they arrived, the victim was gone.

Cocktail bar Cape to Cuba released a statement on the incident via Instagram on Sunday (March 15).

A spokesman for the bar wanted to assure the public that those involved in the altercation were not customers of Cape to Cuba.

The statement reads: “Cape to Cuba would like to make an announcement.

“There was an altercation outside of Cape to Cuba tonight, nobody involved were customers of Cape...

“We believe that the problem occurred from one of the cars up the road. Staff from Cape to Cuba were only made aware after the fight had happened.

“Staff spoke to the people involved, asked if they needed any police or ambulance assistance, they declined.

“We asked them if we could help them in any way, including first aid, which they declined.

“We offered them a glass of water, which they accepted, then sat in Cape to Cuba, and then they decided they wanted to leave while they waited for a taxi.

“We ensured they were OK to leave, we would like to thank everybody for their concern who was involved, but we would like to point that this incident had nothing to do with Cape to Cuba.

“We hope the two gentlemen that were assaulted are OK.

“Many thanks,

“Cape to Cuba team.”

A witness, who did not wish to be named, described the attack as "really nasty" and that the victim "took a really bad beating".

He said: “I was driving down and there was at least one guy on the floor getting kicked quite badly.

“He was face down in the road.

“I was surprised that Prestwich doesn’t have any police patrols out on Saturday night.”

Anyone who thinks they have any information on the attack is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on the non-emergency number 101.
