Man left baffled after he's stood up for date as people warn it was a 'scam'

A man was left baffled when a woman cancelled their date because he refused to pay for her petrol to get there - but people are suspicious that it may have been a scam.

Screenshots of messages between the man and his date shared on Reddit see them arrange to meet at 6.10pm, as he says he'll have a drink waiting for her when she arrives.

But the romantic plans take a turn when she tells him he will be paying for the petrol she uses to get there, to which he laughs and asks if she is serious.

The reply then reads: "Yes or no if you are not forget about it then", at which point the man calls it off by saying: "You are an absolute riot. Thank you so much for the entertainment. I'm gonna get days of fun talking about this. No thank you. Jesus."

It was shared with the caption: "On the recent subject of entitled dates, she demanded I pay for her fuel to drive INTO SOHO so I could buy her a drink!"

One person commented: "I can’t work out why she’s single" and a second said: "Some people genuinely don't seem to realise that public transport exists."

But others suspected there was something more sinister at play, and said the man was right not to have agreed to transfer any money.

One wrote: "Guarantee there was no car and they were just trying to fleece [him] for money" and a second replied: "This was a scam 100% sorry bro".

Another said: "The way 'she' types and speaks seems off and driving into Soho? With Ulez, congestion and parking would probably end up being way more than the fuel costs if she was in driving distance of Soho anyway.

"You were definitely being catfished, 'she' almost certainly pulls this scam with other people then probably blocks them once they receive payment."
