Man leads Gardai on huge chase across two counties before arrest in Dublin over thefts

One man has been arrested in north Dublin in connection with a spate of thefts across Meath over the weekend.

Locals had been terrorised and targeted on Saturday morning as they had tools stolen from their garden sheds with the greedy thief not content with just hitting up one or two spots but stealing from several houses across Ashbourne, Dunboyne and Clonee.

But, the suspected person involved was not careful enough with their steps and a blue Skoda car acting suspiciously across Dublin and Meath was reported to Gardai after being seen leaving one of the houses targeted.

Blanchardstown and Clondalkin residents were warned to keep look out for the car which was said to be the getaway.

Minutes later, it was spotted in Blanchardstown and eventually ended up in Coolock after a Garda chase where it was seized and one man was arrested.

Upon the arrest, Gardai uncovered a number of tools in the vehicle.

A text alert was issued to west Dublin locals who were told to keep "look out for a navy coloured Skoda Superb estate car" for fear of another spate of attacks in the capital.

The text added: "The car has been involved in a number of thefts in the last hour (Saturday 8am).

"Any sightings should be reported to Gardai on 01 8010600."

One source told Dublin Live that a car matching the description of the vehicle being warned about was spotted "flying around north Dublin" about twenty minutes after the text was issued.

They said: "About a half hour after the text was sent out, a car fitting this description was being chased around Coolock by the Gardai."

This turned out to be the same car with Gardai now looking to return the stolen items to their rightful owners.

A Garda spokesman said: "Update on previous reports of a blue Skoda acting suspiciously. Our colleagues in Dublin stopped this car a short time after post went out and arrested one male who was in the car."

They added: "It was spotted in Blanchardstown and eventually ended in Coolock. The car was seized along with a number of tools. If we are unable to identify the tools we will post photos of them at a later date."
