Man labelled 'a monster' for unusual way of transporting books

We've all been in a situation where we're going on a trip and it's a struggle to get every last item we need into our bag.

Books, particularly if they are on the bulky side, can easily cause this problem.

A Twitter user has taken to social media to share one slightly unusual way of dealing with it - and it hasn't gone down very well with book lovers, report The Mirror.

Writer Alex Christofi revealed the way he makes big books fit into his bag when going on a trip - which includes CUTTING long books in half to make them "more portable".

He wrote: "Yesterday my colleague called me a 'book murderer' because I cut long books in half to make them more portable. Does anyone else do this? Is it just me?"

He went on to share a photo of three books he had cut down the middle of the spine for travel purposes.

The post was soon being retweeted and replied to by thousands of people, many of whom had some strong thoughts on the practice.

One person said: "Oh god. This makes me sad inside."

Another replied: "But didn't you hear the books screaming when you cut them?"

Someone else added: "Go directly to jail, do not pass Go."

One even called him a monster.

A fourth person suggested he buy a Kindle reading device and leave the books alone.

Some were not quite so against it though, with a few confessing to using the same tactic.

"Did it once many years ago when travelling with a partner and only had one book between us," commented one.

"Your book, your choice," proclaimed a second.

"Yes, I used to share books between the children when they argued who was going to read it first on holiday. Take pages out of atlases, guide books. Always feels a bit sacrilegious, but it’s just paper, can be replaced," tweeted a third.
