Man knocked unconscious outside Byker pub in late night attack

A man was knocked unconscious outside a Byker pub in a serious assault.

Police officers were called to Shields Road shortly after 11.30pm on Friday night after receiving a report a man had been knocked out outside the Old Post Office.

It is believed the victim, a 23-year-old man, had been involved in an altercation with a group of other men before he was assaulted.

He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A number of witnesses were spoken to at the time of the incident by police but now officers are appealing for anyone else who saw what happened or who might have information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jonathan May of Northumbria Police said: “This is a serious assault which has resulted in a young man being hospitalised.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we would encourage anyone who was in the pub that night or in the area around the time of this incident to come forward and get in touch with us to help us build a picture of what happened.”

Anyone who may have information that will help police is asked to call 101 quoting log number 1371 14/02/20 or email 1035@northumbria.pnn.police.uk.
