Man knocked out with glass then kicked and stamped on as he lay unconscious outside pub

A man was knocked unconscious with a pint glass during a viscous attack outside a pub in Romiley.

The victim was assaulted by a number of men after the Romiley Arms, on Stockport Road, closed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

After the man lost consciousness the attackers continued to kick and stamp on him while he lay on the ground.

A pub worker was still in the building and alerted the emergency services after witnessing the attack.

The victim, aged in his 30s, suffered from serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said around six men or more were involved in the assault, which took place at around 12.15am on Sunday, April 7.

The attackers are thought to be aged in their early 20s.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "Given that this was a large scale disturbance the police are trying to identify if anyone has any video or dashcam footage of the assault."

A spokesperson for the Romiley Arms said: “Fortunately one of our team who was still in the building saw the incident, which happened after the pub had closed, and summoned the emergency services.

"We are  assisting the police with their enquiries and send our best wishes to the gentleman who was hurt.”

Anyone with any information about the assault should contact police on 0161 856 7996 quoting incident number 51 of 07/04/2019.  Information can be passed on anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
