Man knocked out in 'frightening' fight on Lark Lane

A man was knocked out with a single punch in a 'frightening' assault in Liverpool this weekend.

Police confirmed they were called to the Aigburth area at around 2am on Sunday, September 12, to reports that a man was injured following a fight.

Officers attended the scene and a man matching the description of the injured person was located walking past officers, having previously left the scene.

Police confirmed the man did not wish to engage with officers.

It is believed the man went to hospital following the assault as a precaution.

A witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ECHO that incidents such as this are "common" in the area as it gets 'wild' on weekend evenings.

The witness said they worry it's "only a matter of time" before someone is seriously injured.

They said: "It was quite frightening and for a while the man who took the punch did not look in a good way at all.

"He appeared out cold for several minutes but luckily he was picked up to his feet by the help of others.

"Lark Lane has a very serious problem right now and frankly it gets wild in the evenings.

"Fights like this are common."

He added: "It's only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or even killed in a similar incident."

Inspector Dave Uren said: "We simply will not tolerate such acts of violence in our communities and have stepped up high visibility patrols in the Lark Lane area.

"The incident in the early hours of this morning would have been shocking for anyone to witness and I would urge anyone who saw anything to come forward so we can find those responsible and bring them to justice.

"With the public’s help we can make our streets safer and whether you get in touch with us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers your information will be acted upon."

CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out and officers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact them via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 21000634658.
