Man knocked down by quad bike while walking on path in Peterlee hit and run

A man was knocked down by a quad bike while walking on a path in County Durham.

The man suffered serious leg injuries when he was hit outside the Acre Rigg Social Club on Lowhills Road in Peterlee at 7.30pm on Saturday.

A photo was shared on social media of the victim lying on the floor with a large amount of blood coming from his leg in the aftermath of the collision.

It is believed the quad bike driver failed to stop at the scene and police officers are working to trace them.

Paramedics treated the man who was then taken to hospital in Sunderland.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of a collision outside of Acre Rigg Social Club on Lowhills Road in Peterlee at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

"It is believed the victim was walking along the path when he was struck by a quad bike.

"The man was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

"Inquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.34 on Saturday night to a person injured on Lowhills Road in Peterlee.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and took a male patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital with leg injuries."
