Man knifed repeatedly and cars set on fire as armed police surround street

A 24-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in a street as three cars were burned out nearby in Birmingham.

Armed police, paramedics and the fire service were all called to the incident in Sparkhill shortly after 11pm on Monday.

The man was discovered in the road after being knifed several times.

A car on the road was deliberately set on fire which also caused damage to several other parked cars, police said.

One eyewitnesses who lives nearby told Birmingham Live: "I was sleeping and I heard a big bang.

"It was a crash. There was a fire and we called 999 and they said they were already on their way.

"As soon as I came outside there was armed police, lots of police, an ambulance and two fire engines.

"They we’re treating a man down the road. They closed everything and asked me to go."

Another local resident said: "There were at least ten police cars. It was a really serious and worrying incident."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman told Birmingham Live: "We were called at 11.07pm to reports of a stabbing on Knowle Road.

"One ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car attended.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, with multiple serious stab injuries.

"He was taken to hospital for further treatment.

"A car was also found set alight at the scene." 

Today, a small police cordon remained in place restricting access to the burnt-out remains of three cars.

West Midlands Police told Mirror Online: "We’re investigating a stabbing and car fire on Knowle Road in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, at around 11pm yesterday (Monday 26 October).

"We were called to the road last night, where a 24-year-old man had suffered several stab wounds.

"He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains today (Tuesday 27 October).



"It is believed a car on the road was deliberately set on fire too, which also caused damage to several other parked cars.

"Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries.

"The road has been cordoned off while we conduct enquiries.
