Thug pulls 14 inch machete from trousers and chops man's wrist outside McDonald's

A man stabbed outside a McDonald's restaurant was in danger of losing his hand after a horrific late-night assault.

The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday when a man was with friends before he was approached by the knifeman, close to the fast food outlet.

He was stabbed with a weapon, described as a 14-inch machete, which was suddenly pulled out from the thug's trousers.

The 24-year-old victim was rushed to Whiston Hospital from the scene of the incident on Folly Lane, on the outskirts of Warrington town centre.

He required an emergency 10-hour operation as medics battled to save his hand.

He suffered appalling injuries around his wrist area.

It is understood the victim, who comes from Wigan, may still need a partial amputation.

Detectives are investigating the shocking attack which happened at 3.20am, at the weekend.

At the time, Detective Inspector Nick Henderson, of Cheshire Police, said: “While we have arrested a suspect in connection with this incident we are continuing to appeal for information from the public.

“As part of our enquiries we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack, or anyone with any information which may assist with our investigation.

“The same goes for anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the incidents and thinks they may have dashcam footage which may be relevant to the investigation.”

Another stabbing happened in Warrington on the same night, when a 24-year-old man was attacked by two men in the Brickfield Park area of the town, six hours earlier.

The victim, with his partner at the time, sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to Aintree Hospital.

The two incidents are not believed to be linked.

- In relation to the McDonalds stabbing, Jordan Hughes, 21, was charged with possession of a knife in a public place and section 18 assault – grievous bodily harm with intent.

The suspect, of Calgarth Avenue, appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
