Man 'kills uncle and aunt after believing she was a witch doing black magic on family'

A man killed his uncle and beheaded his aunt because he thought she was "performing black magic" on his family, it is claimed.

Shankhu Gond, 43, is accused of the gruesome murder in Anuppur, India.

He is said to have buried his aunt's head in order to ensure she "won't come back as a ghost to haunt them".

Gond was arrested on Wednesday, the day after the double murder.

The body of 60-year-old Beshani Gond was found in woodland alongside her husband Bhagwandin Gond, 65, the Times of India reports .

Investigators believe the killer followed his aunt when she went to a forest to relieve herself.

He was said to have confessed to the murders, which he carried out after a run of bad luck.

Gond reportedly believed his aunt was to blame, and wanted her out the way.

After stabbing her and cutting her head off, he resolved to kill his uncle as well, knowing that he could come looking for his wife.

Police officer Abhishek Rajan told the Times of India : “During interrogation, he admitted that he killed his aunt because he believed she was doing black magic on his family.

"His son had fallen ill recently, and his cattle had died.

"He thought his aunt was responsible for everything bad happening to his family."

His uncle was killed "for fear of getting caught", Mr Rajan said.

Gond was arrested after witnesses reported seeing him covered in blood in the aftermath of the murders.
