SA KAEO: The owner of a petrol station in Muang district of this western border province was killed and his wife seriously injured in a gun attack early Sunday.
The incident took place at the petrol station on Thesaban 6 road at about 5am, said Pol Maj Gen Surajit Chinawan, the provincial police chief. At least two armed men suddenly opened fire with .38 pistols at Pracha Worathat, 52, the pump owner, and his wife Palida, 49.
Pracha was shot in the head and killed instantly while Mrs Palida was hit four times in the body and seriously wounded. The woman was rushed to Sa Kaeo Hospital for treatment.
Two spent shells of .38 ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Pol Maj Gen Surajit said since there were no surveillance cameras at the petrol station, police would examine footage from security cameras installed along the road that runs past it for clues.
Police were trying to establish the motive for the crime.
Pattamaporn Worathat, 30, the couple's daughter, rushed from Bangkok, where she works as a teacher, to Sa Kaeo on learning of the incident. She said her family moved from Chachoengsao to Sa Kaeo five years ago and bought a plot of land with the petrol station from its former owner.
Her parents never mentioned any conflicts with people in the neighbourhood, she said.
