Man killed when BMW hit tree minutes into 2020 pictured as family pay tribute

A man killed when a BMW smashed into a tree just minutes into the New Year has been pictured as his devastated family pay tribute.

Jon Paul Breakwell, 37, from Walsall, died at the scene in Great Barr, Birmingham.

The driver's family today paid an emotional tribute to him saying: "We are all devastated and shocked by this tragic incident.

"Jon Paul was fun loving, hugely popular and larger than life.

"He will be sadly missed."

West Midlands Police said Mr Breakwell's family were being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer and an investigation into the collision is continuing.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who was driving near the area at about 12.20am on 1 January and may have caught a silver 3-Series BMW on dash-cam, to get in touch.

The incident is one of a number of fatal car crashes around the country over the New Year.

In a separate incident three British Airways flight attendants were killed in a horror New Year's Eve crash.

Dominic Fell, 23, and colleagues Joe Finnis, 25, and Rachel Clark, 20, died and a fourth BA worker was seriously injured when his T near Heathrow Airport just minutes before midnight.

The cause of the crash in Stanwell, Surrey, has not been revealed.
