A 43-year-old man has died after being pinned by the trailer of a truck while working on a construction site in Canberra's north.
Police were called to Gordon Ford Way near a residential construction site in Taylor, Gungahlin around 11:25am on Wednesday after reports of a workplace incident.
Paramedics tried to save the man, but he died at the scene.
CFMEU ACT spokesman Zachary Smith said the man was near, but not on the worksite when he was pinned by the trailer.
"It's absolutely heartbreaking that we have another fatality in the Canberra construction industry," Mr Smith said.
"My deepest condolences and that of the CFMEU are extended to his family, his friends and his work colleagues.
Calls to focus on safety ahead of Christmas break
Mr Smith said the ACT's recent lockdown had pushed projects back, and urged people to prioritise safety heading into the Christmas holidays.
"We're approaching what is traditionally a really busy time of the year as people are trying to get things done before Christmas," he said.
"That rush is only going to be exacerbated by the COVID lockdown.
"We've had to just remind everyone to prioritise safety and to make sure that in the mad push between now and Christmas that we don't take our eyes off safety.
Emergency vehicles could be seen lining the road next to the worksite on Wednesday afternoon.
Because the man died on the street outside of a construction site, his death will be counted in the ACT's road toll.
His death was the 10th on territory roads this year.
