Man killed in two-vehicle crash near Northern Territory and Queensland border

Police have declared the crash site a crime scene. (ABC News: Tristan Hooft)

A man has died in a car crash in a remote area near the Northern Territory and Queensland border.

In a statement this afternoon, police said the two-vehicle crash had happened on Savannah Way in Calvert, about 170 kilometres south-east of Borroloola, at about 1pm today.

The man died at the scene.

Police said officers from Borroloola were at the crash site and had declared it a crime scene.

The road has been closed and motorists have been warned to expect significant delays.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Unit would arrive at the site tomorrow, police said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said police were "working to repatriate the deceased".
