A man was killed in a fireworks explosion Monday in the South Side Ashburn neighborhood, police said.

Juan Acevedo, 53, was involved in an accident with an explosive device about 3:55 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 85th Street, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Acevedo, who was pronounced dead on the scene, lived on the same block.

Police bomb and arson units were called to the scene. An autopsy was pending Tuesday.
