Man killed in rollover crash near Elgin

A man was killed in a rollover crash June 6, 2019, in unincorporated Plato Township.

A man was killed in a rollover crash Thursday after swerving to avoid a bird in the road in an unincorporated area near northwest suburban Elgin.

Aaron Beason, 20, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala east on Plank Road at 12:35 a.m. when he “tried to avoid a large bird or duck that was in the road” between Switzer and Russell roads in unincorporated Plato Township, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.

He lost control and the car rolled over multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office. Beason, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the car during the crash.

He was taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. He lived in Burlington.

Beason’s roommate, another 20-year-old man, was wearing a seatbelt and was not ejected in the crash, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

Plank was closed between Switzer and Russell for about three hours, the sheriff’s office said. The crash remains under investigation by sheriff’s detectives and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
