A man was shot to death Saturday in Oakland on the South Side.

Jabari Pittman, 19, was walking in the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue about 5:30 p.m. when someone got out of a green BMW, pulled out a gun and opened fire, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Pittman, who lived in Oakland, was struck in the head, leg and hand, authorities said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

An autopsy conducted Sunday ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

A man said he heard shots, saw the man shot outside and went to comfort his family who was nearby. Police were searching the area near a car, and placed at least 14 evidence markers near it.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
