A person claiming self-defense was released from custody after a homeless man was stabbed to death Wednesday during an argument in Lawndale on the West Side.

Warren Sturdivant, 24, was fatally stabbed about 12:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of South Keeler Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was arguing with another man when the pair began fighting and he was stabbed in the abdomen, police said. Both men were allegedly armed with knives and intoxicated.

Paramedics found Sturdivant in front of a home and took him to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died, authorities said.

Sturdivant died of a stab wound to the abdomen, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors declined to charge the suspect, who claimed self-defense, police said.
