KANCHANABURI: A man was killed after his car skidded off a road, hit a large drain pipe and overturned in Muang district of this western province on Saturday night.
Pol Lt Col Jirayu Kotprasit, deputy chief investigator of the Muang police station, said the accident occurred at 7.28pm on a bypass at Moo 5 village in tambon Pak Phraek.
Witnesses said that the speeding Honda Civic car skidded off the road while heading for the Kaeng Sian intersection, apparently to avoid hitting an elderly man who was walking across the road. The car rammed into a large drain pipe and overturned.
Rescuers from the Pithakkan Charity Foundation broke the car open and found the driver, identified later as Arthit Ruangwongroj, 25, dead. He had suffered a broken neck and heavy injuries to the head and the chest. Two French Bulldogs were also in the car; one was killed, while the other survived.
Arthit was a son of the owner of a well-known noodle shop in Kanchanaburi town.
Police were investigating to establish the cause of the accident.
