Man killed in Harvey hit-and-run crash

The crash happened early Wednesday morning in the south suburbs.

The vehicle that struck the 58-year-old did not stop, police said.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who sped off early Wednesday in south suburban Harvey.

The 58-year-old man was hit by a vehicle about 3:50 a.m. in the 14300 block of South Halsted Street, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The man, identified as Oritsejolo Meneokotie of Englewood on the South Side, was pronounced dead within an hour.

The vehicle that struck Meneokotie did not stop, the Cook County sheriff’s office said. Police have not offered a description of the vehicle.

An autopsy released Thursday found Meneokotie died of injuries from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled accidental.

Harvey police did not immediately reply to a request for additional information. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
