
A man died in a crash Sunday in Gresham on the South Side.
The man, 26, was in the passenger seat of a northbound 2016 Mazda SUV about 7:04 p.m. when the driver swerved into the southbound lanes to get around traffic in the 8500 block of South Halsted Street, Chicago police said.
The driver, also 26, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a light pole, police said. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for observation and is being investigated for DUI, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the death.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
