A man has died after being hit by a lorry on a Glasgow street this morning.

The 44-year-old was struck on Duke Street, near to its junction with Bellfield Street in the east end of the city at around 10.40am today.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Sadly he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 45-year-old female driver of the Mercedes lorry was uninjured. The road was shut for a time to allow emergency services to work but has since re-opened.

Police are asking anyone with any information to come forward. Sergeant James Crawford of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place who has not yet spoken to police to contact us. Anyone with information should contact officers through 101 with reference number 1390 of 1 June.”
