Man killed in Far South Side shooting: police

A man was killed in a shooting Thursday near Altgeld Gardens on the Far South Side, police said.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 4:53 p.m. in the 13200 block of South Rhodes Avenue and found the 36-year-old with gunshot wounds to the head and chest, Chicago police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the death.

Area South detectives are investigating.
