Man killed in Englewood shooting: police

A man was fatally shot Friday in Englewood on the South Side, police said.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert about 7:50 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Ashland Avenue and found the man with a gunshot wound to the neck, Chicago police said.

The 22-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details on the fatality.

Area South detectives are investigating.
