Man killed in crash after hitting lamppost in Swansea

A man has died after a crash close to the DVLA's headquarters in Swansea.

Ambulance services, including the Air Ambulance, were called to the scene where a black Ford Fiesta had collided with a lampost on Clasemont Road, Morriston, at 2.17pm on August 30th, 2021.

Police officers and the fire service were also present at the incident.

South Wales Police have since announced the 71-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene.

No other vehicles or injured persons have been named in the incident.

The road was closed until around 2am on August 31st, 2021.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Officers are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at 2.19pm yesterday, August 30th 2021 on Clasemont Road, Morriston, Swansea between Long View Road and Mount Crescent.

"The incident involved a black Ford Fiesta driven by a 71-year-old man. The driver was declared deceased at scene and his family are being supported by a specially trained liaison officer.

"Officers wish to thank members of the public who assisted at scene and for their patience during the road closures."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to the Claremont Road area of Morriston at approximately 2.17pm yesterday, Monday 30 August to reports of a single vehicle road traffic accident.

"We sent three rapid response vehicles, one emergency ambulance, one urgent care doctor and the Wales Air Ambulance to the scene."

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the Ford Fiesta prior to the collision is asked to contact the police quoting occurrence number 2100305521.
