A man was killed in a crash after his car ploughed into a tree close to a retail park.
Emergency services were called to Rock Retail Park, in Birkenhead, on Thursday night after reports of a crash at 9.30pm.
The car, a Ford Fiesta, had hit a tree after coming off the road, killing the driver inside the car.
It is believed that the victim, a man in his 50s, had driven from the North Wales area, travelling along the M53 and New Chester Road before crashing.
His next of kin have been informed and while they are being supported, officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are investigating following a fatal road traffic collision in Birkenhead last night, Thursday 26 March.
"At around 9.30pm, emergency services were called to Rock Retail Park, Rock Ferry to reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a tree.
"The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
"It is believed the driver have travelled from the North Wales area and possibly along the M53 and A41 New Chester Road area.
"The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers."
