Man killed in collision on Felling bypass named as 36-year-old Nathan Ariss

A pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a car in Gateshead has been named as 36-year-old Nathan Ariss.

Mr Ariss, from South Shields, died following the collision with the dark coloured vehicle on the Felling bypass , near Whitemare Pool, in the early hours of Saturday.

Emergency services attended at around 12.30am but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation has been launched by Northumbria Police to determine the cause of the collision and officers are keen to hear from members of the public.

A man and woman - both aged 40 - were arrested and have been released under investigation.

Enquiries are now being carried out by officers to establish exactly what has happened.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or drivers that were in the area at the time and who may have dashcam footage.
