A man was shot to death Friday in Burnside on the South Side.

The 19-year-old was walking in an alley with two other males about 10 p.m. in the 9400 block of South Vernon Avenue when someone opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man was struck in the chest and back, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Cornelius Pulthus Jr., who lived in the neighborhood. An autopsy Saturday ruled Pulthus Jr.’s death a homicide, saying he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
