Man killed in apparent hit-and-run near Columbus Park: police

A man was killed Wednesday in an apparent hit-and-run near Columbus Park in Austin on the West Side.

About 2:40 a.m., officers responded to calls of a person laying in the street in the 800 block of South Central Avenue and found a white male unresponsive, Chicago police said. The man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He appears to have been hit by a car, police said. No one is in custody as police search for possible witnesses to the crash.

Chicago police’s Major Accident Unit is investigating.
