Man killed in A40 Abergavenny crash was loving dad nicknamed 'Spuddy'

A man who died in a crash on the A40 in the early hours of Wednesday morning has been named as 65-year-old Robert Watkins.

Mr Watkins, from the Abergavenny area, was known locally as 'Spuddy'.

Gwent Police received a call at 1.55am on Wednesday, July 24 reporting a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A40 .

The crash took place between Abergavenny and Glangrwyney, known locally as Brecon Road.

Mr Watkins was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

His family have now paid tribute, describing him as "a much loved family man who lived for farming and his children, known to all as ‘Spuddy’.

"His loss has left his family and friends heartbroken."

Officers are now urging any motorists who used the road between 1am and 1.55am to check any dash cam footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident should call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 40 24/07/19.
