NOIDA: A 21-year-old man was killed allegedly by the uncle and the father of a woman who were opposed to their relationship and marriage plan, police officials here said on Thursday.
An FIR has been lodged at the Ecotech 3 police station in Central Noida in connection with the incident and the 25-year-old uncle of the college-going woman has been arrested while her father is at large, the officials said.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (Central Noida) Saad Miyan Khan said the accused Sanjay Kumar (father) and Anil Kumar (uncle) and the deceased Atul Kumar lived in the same neighbourhood in the Kulesara area.
"Initially the police received a report of abduction of Atul on Wednesday. An FIR was lodged immediately but during probe it was found that he was in a love relationship with a woman. However, the families of both were opposed to it," Khan said.
"Further investigation revealed that the woman's uncle Anil had called Atul for a meeting on Tuesday. During the meeting, he got Atul drunk and killed him with a sharp-edged object. Later, his body was dumped near the Hindon river," the officer said.
The additional DCP said initially an FIR was lodged under IPC section 363 (missing) but later it was converted into 364 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder) and added that further legal proceedings in the case were underway.
According to officials, the woman's father works as an autorickshaw driver and uncle was unemployed, while her lover was an AC mechanic.
The families belonged to different castes, the officials added.
The police said the items used in the killing have been recovered and the uncle remanded in 14-day judicial custody by a local court.
