Man killed by gate at industrial site

The man in his 60s died after being crushed by a gate at this Berkley industrial site.

A man in his 60s has died after being crushed by a gate at an industrial site on the New South Wales South Coast.

Emergency services were called to the site at Berkeley, south of Wollongong, at 6:00am after reports a man was injured.

Paramedics tried to save him but he died at the scene.

A spokesperson for SafeWork NSW said its investigations were ongoing.

Police investigators and SafeWork officials have spent the morning at the site talking to employees and taking photos of the gate.

A blue police tent was erected at the site's entrance alongside a row of emergency vehicles.

It is understood the warehouse is used for manufacturing of construction and concrete slabbing.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union has offered it sympathy to the man's family.

The workplace death is the second in as many months, after a driver was crushed to death by a ute at nearby Port Kembla in May.
