Man killed by falling tree while walking his dog in Liverpool woods

A man in his 60s has died after being hit by a falling tree while out walking his dog.

Emergency services were called to Black Wood in Woolton shortly after 11am this morning to reports that a man had been seriously injured by a falling tree branch.

The victim sadly died a short time later.

He has now been identified and his next of kin have been informed.

Road closures remain in place in the area, including on Wood View Road outside the entrance to Black Wood.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that the man hit by the falling tree branch in Black Wood in Woolton has sadly passed away.



"The man, who is in his 60s and from the Liverpool area, has now been identified and his next of kin have been informed.

"Road closures remain in place in the area."

A council spokesperson said: “A man in his 60s has died after apparently being struck by a falling branch at Black Wood in Woolton during the high winds this morning.

"The council is shocked and saddened to hear of this death and all thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends.

“The emergency services remain at the scene and the area is expected to remain cordoned off to the public for some time.

“The ancient woodland belongs to Liverpool City Council and the council will co-operate fully with any subsequent investigation.”
