A man was killed and another was injured in a shooting Thursday in south suburban Robbins.
The man, thought to be in his 30s, was shot multiple times in the chest about 1:30 a.m. after getting out of a vehicle near 135th Place and Keystone Avenue, according to Robbins village spokesman Sean Howard.
Responding officers found him lying in the street and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Howard said. He lived in nearby Riverdale.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the fatality.
Howard said the shooting is Robbins’ first homicide this year.
Another man, thought to be in his 20s, was shot in the foot and ran away before collapsing in the 13400 block of South Hamlin Avenue, according to Howard. He was taken to a hospital and his injury was not thought to be life threatening.
Howard said the shooting might have involved one or two suspects, who may have run around the corner to a getaway car. He said detectives have “great leads” after speaking to multiple witnesses and are reviewing video from nearby security cameras.
“We’re confident that we can bring closure to this in a reasonable amount of time,” Howard said.
According to medical examiner’s office records, the last homicide in Robbins happened on Nov. 11, 2018, when security guard Jemel Roberson was fatally shot by a Midlothian police officer responding to a shooting at the Manny’s Blue Room bar at 2911 S. Claire Blvd.
A man was charged with attempted murder earlier this month for a shooting outside a Robbins bar in July, and a drive-by shooting in May left five men injured in the 14000 block of Grace Avenue in the south suburb.
