Man killed, another wounded in Gresham shooting

Two men were wounded, one fatally, in a shooting Thursday in Gresham on the South Side, police said.

About 8:35 p.m., the pair was in the 7700 block of South Sangamon Street when someone opened fire, Chicago police said.

Cedric Smith, 27, suffered a gunshot wound to the body and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Another man, 35, was struck in the leg and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition, police said.

Area Two detectives are investigating.
