Man killed and four injured after car ploughs into pedestrians in Colliers Wood

A man has been killed and three people injured after a car ploughed into four pedestrians in south London on Sunday.

The collision happened on the A24 Merantun Way in Colliers Wood, Merton, at 12.15pm.

One of the pedestrians, a 49-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the efforts of police and paramedics who responded.

Three other pedestrians involved were taken to hospital, where their condition has been assessed as not life-threatening, said Met Police on Monday.

The driver stopped at the scene and was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Photos shared on X by Merton Cycling Campaign appeared to show a dark BMW SUV by a pedestrian crossing. A police tent was also pictured at the scene.

The collision is understood to have taken place at a pedestrian crossing where the Wandle Trail - a popular walk that runs alongside the River Wandle - crosses the A24.

The road crossing is a short distance from a roundabout.

“Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of the collision,” said a Met spokesperson.

“The investigation is led by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merton.”

No arrests have been made.
