Man killed after falling off horse in tragic accident in Co Waterford named locally

A man killed after the horse he was riding bolted in Dungarvan, Co Waterford on Tuesday has been named locally as Tommy Harty.

The Dungarvan local, 40, was riding a horse on the Shandon Road when the tragic accident happened.

Mr Harty was thrown from the horse and was killed due to the impact of the fall.

Gardai rushed to the scene and the road was closed for a time as the incident was dealt with.

An investigation is underway into the death and a post-mortem is due to take place at Waterford University Hospital.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Dungarvan attended an incident at approximately 3.30p.m., Tuesday 24th March, 2020 at Shandon Road, Waterford. 

"A man (40 years) was fatally injured, after an accidental fall from a horse and his body has been removed to Waterford University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course. Investigations ongoing."
