Man killed after crash between truck and car in Ballyhooleen, Co Cork

A young man has died after a serious crash between a truck and a car in Cork overnight.

The man, 24, was the sole occupant of a car which collided with a truck in Ballyhooleen shortly after 1am.

A man and woman who were travelling in the truck were both hospitalised with minor injuries.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Ballinhassig Co Cork are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Ballyhooleen, Ballinhassig, Co Cork.

"At approximately 1am this morning, Saturday 28th September 2019 Gardaí and Emergency services attended the scene of a serious collision involving a car and  a truck at the above location. The 24-year-old male driver of the car (only occupant) was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The male driver and female passenger of the truck were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-serious injuries. The scene is currently preserved and Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the crash site."

They added: "The road remains closed and local traffic diversions remain in place. Gardaí at Bandon are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage.

Station,The road between Crossbarry and Halfway is closed this morning after a serious overnight collision."

Gardai have shut the route and diversions are in place as they deal with the aftermath and clear the road.

AA Roadwatch said: "The Halfway/Crossbarry Rd (R589) is closed due to a crash overnight. Diversions are in place."
