Man killed after car ploughs into east London pub in early hours as two arrested at scene

A man has died after a car ploughed into a pub in London in the early hours, with police arresting two people at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the Albert Bow in Tower Hamlets, east London on Sunday at 1.35am.

It is believed the vehicle swerved off at the junction of Roman Road and St Stephen's Road and smashed into the building.

Scotland Yard and the London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, but despite the efforts of officers and paramedics a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car’s driver and another passenger were treated in hospital with non life-threatening or life-changing injuries.

A spokesman for LAS said: “We were called at 1:35am today (July 20) to reports of a road traffic collision on St Stephen's Road, Bow.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, members of our hazardous area response team (HART) and London's Air Ambulance.

“Our crews treated three people. Sadly, one person was declared dead at the scene. We took the other two patients to hospital.”
