Man killed after being hit by lorry on M4

A 61-year-old man has died after being hit by a lorry in an early morning crash on the M4.

Police were called to reports of an accident on the eastbound carriageway between junction 24 Coldra and junction 23 Magor Services at around 6.50am on Tuesday (November 23).

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “Officers attended to assist with traffic management after a man was hit by a lorry. A 61-year-old man from the Caldicot area was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by paramedics, where he later died. His next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers."

There have been long delays on the motorway (Traffic Wales)

The eastbound carriageway has been closed for much of the morning as officers carry out investigations at the scene.

One lane has re-opened, but two lanes remain closed between junctions 23 and 24 heading east, and congestion is heavy on both sides of the M4.

There are delays of more than an hour eastbound as traffic is diverted off the motorway and through the Newport area.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch by calling 101, quoting log reference 2100410666.
