A man has died after being hit by a car on a Scots road late last night.
The 42-year-old died at the scene of the A79 Prestwick Loop Road, in Ayrshire after being struck by the silver Skoda Octavia at around 11.20pm last night.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency crews he could not be saved.
The driver of the car was uninjured but left 'badly shaken' with the road closed for a number of hours.
Police have now launched an appeal for any information.
A statement from Ayrshire Police Division reads: "Any relevant CCTV footage will be viewed for any additional information it could provide.
"The road was closed for several hours as collision investigators conducted enquiries at the scene."
Sergeant Scott Sutherland of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Department appealed for an Audi driver in the vicinity to get in touch.
He said: “Our enquiries so far have established an Audi motor car was on the road at the time of the incident, however, the driver may not have realised a collision has occurred.
"I am appealing to the driver of that car to contact us as we work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
“In particular, if any motorists have dash cam devices, please check your footage as it could assist our investigation. Any small piece of information is relevant to our inquiry.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 4261 of 13 August, 2021.
